Classified Claims

For those who served in Special Operations or on Classified Missions. You may find that your records are missing critical pieces of evidence that you need to make a Claim.

Worry not! The VA knows that sometimes the DoD had us do things that need to be kept under wraps. And as such, there is a method in place for those records to be reviewed so that proper recognition and compensation can be given to you.


Notifying the VA

In order for the VA to give the proper attention your claim needs you need to give the VA proper notice.

When you submit your claim or Appeal supply the following information on a Personal statement:

  • MOS/Occupational Specialty:

  • Rank/Grade (during incident):

  • Branch of Service, Component:

  • Unit of Assignment:

  • Tour dates (of deployment and/or mission):

  • Location (city/province and country) where the incident occurred that resulted in the injuries):

  • Approximate date of the incident (within 60-day range):

  • Whether the operation was classified: Yes/No

  • A brief description of the incident:

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • SEALs MUST state the specific SEAL Team they were assigned to.

  • Those attached to a special operations unit MUST state their primary unit of assignment as well as special operations unit they were attached to.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Yes, yes it would be. HOWEVER. the VA itself never handles classified information. They merely contact the custodians of the classified records and they give the VA a sanitized summary of any findings.
