Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Benefits

The only thing more fun about being trapped in a plane with a bunch of strangers is being trapped in a long snaking line with a bunch of strangers! Thankfully, TSA has implemented a few programs to help Veterans:

  • Additional forms of acceptable REAL ID compliant IDs.

  • Military Lanes

  • Free TSA PreCheck enrollment and renewal

Do know if you need specific assistance going through security you should use TSA Cares at least 72 hours of your departure so they can better assist you.

Additional Acceptable REAL ID Compliant IDs

As of May 7, 2025, state-issued driver’s licenses and IDs that are not REAL ID compliant are no longer accepted as valid forms of identification at airports. However, the following IDs Veterans may hold are considered REAL ID compliant by TSA:

Military Lanes

Allow you to get to the front of the line at security. If your airport does not have a dedicated military line show the lane monitor proof of your Veteran status for front-of-the-line service.

Acceptable proof of Veteran status:

NOTE: As this is such a new program expect TSA employees to be confused and push back at you, even if you show them the information on the TSA’s own website.

Free TSA PreCheck (Enrollment and Renewal)

Veterans who meet the ALL of following eligibility requirements, have the fee for TSA PreCheck waived:

  • Currently enrolled in VA healthcare; and

  • Have a service‑connected disability of permanent blindness or require the use of a VA‑issued wheelchair or prosthetic limb.
