Ratings Schedule for Muscle Hernias

When organs go through the wall of a cavity that contains it normally.


5326 General Muscle Hernias

These are particularly rare. As most hernias involve the abdominal area. Which are rated under the Digestive system schedule.

PYRAMIDING NOTE:

  • If the Veteran has a rating for Muscle injury they CANNOT get a rating for a muscle hernia.

Exists and has not been repaired/healed.

Hernia of the Diaphragm

When there is a hole in the muscle that normally separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity.

  • There is no rating provided under this schedule. Instead the Veteran will be rated based upon the Hiatal hernia schedule.

Other Hernia Conditions

Again, the most common types of hernias involve the abdominal cavity and are rated under the Digestive system.

Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQs)

To get an idea of how a C&P exam will be conducted it is recommended that the Veteran look at the applicable DBQ.
